Meet Dr. Patner

What defines me as a cosmetic dentist is what defines me as a dentist with a philosophy of caring for people through the medium of teeth.

This philosophy means being responsible, operating with integrity, taking the time to do it right, continued learning and loving being a dentist. I experience a heart felt joy in restoring people to health as the enclosed pre treatment post treatment cases illustrate.

It is this love and pursuit of knowledge that led me to study with Professor Mariano Rocabado, a renown physical therapist whom I studied with since 1980 and was involved in a one year clinical internship program in 1991 with ten physical therapists from throughout the country for the purpose of learning his philosophy of the biodynamics of the cervical (neck) spine and it's relationship to the temporomandibular (jaw) joints.

My studies also included participation in an ongoing study club from 1985 through 1990 under the direction of Dr. Terry Tanaka, a well known anatomist and dentist in whose study club I was able to learn Dr. Tanaka's view of the relationship between the teeth and temporomandibular joints.

In 1994 I started studying a philosophy of dentistry termed Orognathic Bioesthetics. This philosophy has three principles: 1) stable condylar position (jaw joints functioning in their respective sockets), 2) anterior guidance system (front teeth separate the back teeth in protrusive and lateral jaw movements and 3) the posterior teeth have proper genetic tooth form.

It is my belief that in order to create an attractive, beautiful, long lasting smile one has to restore the teeth to function in a proper relationship between the jaw opening muscles and the cervical spine. This impacts the facial soft tissue including the eyes.

My passionate interest for the past several years has been to understand the relationship between the cervical spine, temporomandibular joints and teeth.

In the pursuit of this passion I have developed and patented a chair that I call Mas Xi pronounced mas chee that allows an individual to self mobilize their skull bones (occipital condyles) on their neck bone (atlas) through a full range of physiological movement.
